Rachel Reese Photography

Hi, I'm Rachel!

When I was a child of about 8, my father gave me my first camera - a black and white Ansco camera. I would take pictures of the rare vacations we went on. Later in college I took a Physics of Light class where we took pictures and then developed them in the lab. I used a twin-lens Yashica camera and shot in black and white. The first time I went to the lab and placed the exposed photo paper in the developer solution and watched the image appear, I was totally hooked on photography.

Photography requires me to be both patient and spontaneous. It teaches me to slow down, to notice my surroundings. Whether I’m traveling to national parks, vacation spots or hiking through nature, my camera and my phone are an extension of how I connect with the world around me.

My Top Three Favorite Places to Photograph

Uinta Mountains Wilderness

There are many beautiful mountain lakes and wildflowers to see and photograph. I love spending the summer months there exploring with my camera.

White Pocket Arizona

This area is not very large and has some of the most beautiful rock and sand formations. It is like a "mini wave".

Arches National Park

I love visiting Arches National Park. There are so many arches and views to photograph.

What Photography Means To Me

Photography changed my life

Photography helps me look at the world in a different way. Whenever I see a beautiful landscape, I want to capture it and remember it. I haven't always been good at picking out leading lines, or naturally occurring frames in the landscape, that make for good compositions. That is why I have found and learned from people who teach these concepts so that I can take pictures that I would want to put on my walls.

I truly believe that photography helps me enjoy my surroundings more. I love sharing that beauty with others through my photos. I am very grateful for a community that is willing to share their skills, and I want to also share what I learn with others.

My Favorite Photo

I have a difficult time choosing my favorite photo. It sometime changes on what I have recently learned and practiced. It's not easy.

I find that the photo that might be my favorite today will change by next month, and that is because I tend to get attached to the most recent photos I have taken. With that said, this photo is my favorite this month. By next month I hope I will have taken a new photo that I love even more!

My Cameras

  1. My first camera was an Ansco that my father gave me. I was only able to shoot a few rolls of film, because that was what we could afford.

  2. The next camera I used was a twin-lens Yashica camera for a class in college called Physics of Light. I was introduced to the 'magic' of the darkroom and was hooked on photography for life.

  3. I then bought myself a Pentax ME Super camera when I began my career of teaching. I used this camera until digital cameras came out and then I used a variety of point-and-shoot digital cameras.

  4. My current camera is a Nikon D7500.

It's been with me on most of my trips, capturing moments and scenery that I want to remember, giving me the power to freeze time and tell stories through light and perspective. It has helped me see the world more clearly and express the way I feel about it.
